Lecture 1 Summary: Introduction to Urban Design

Urban Design is more than just the use of present environmental means to create an efficient and effective building, façade or space. It is the integration of the present identities of the differing buildings and spaces, be it in functionality or aesthetically.  The ability to merge the old and new architectural physicality; the corporate and the residential, is an art in aim to create a workable and accessible system for the users. It pays homage and recognition to a city’s culture and heritage, while retaining its economical aim for further progression.
Similar to any individual, any solitary city has its own unique and personal attributes and quality.

A personal analysis has been done on the planning and city’s arrangement of the following cities mentioned in the lecture.

Planning of the city is identical in designing a façade of any building or space, it follows the same rules and guideline which both adhere to. There must be a practicality and an essence of excitement in each detail; meticulousness in the columns and fixture of a building or the way a road bends in to the boulevard. It should be legible from all views; not only should it look viable from the aerial view of a planner or developer, but to an everyday user or passer-by who communes or resides in the city. Easy accessibility and efficient circulation is crucial as it determines the everyday journey of a civilian, who should get to reap and enjoy the rewards of its estate.

Social and visual communications play part to the characteristic and legibility of the city for the consumers as they form nodes and places of interest to the individuals.
e.g The crowded streets of tokyo with it's flashy advertorials
and signboards depict its happening and futuristic scene and repertoire as a nation.

All of these are guided and have progressed from its history and the aims of the government as a nation.  The urban planning of a city conveys the message of it’s past, present and future existence, and the regime of how it should and would be run in future.
e.g  Radiant city;Le corbusier's visionary for a rigid and well defined city, neat and in order
with clear circulation and accessibility to each building.
Clarity is present in the form following it's function.

e.g Garden City; Ebenezer Howard. It radiates as how the globe does, creating the central area to be
the core for the extravagant and lush greenery and highlight of the city[similar to how the equator
caters to a lush and huge variety and range of the rainforest].
The radiated points play as different sections of the city which serve an imprint and continuation of the whole image of the garden city.

A Start To The Semester

It's the start of a new semester and a redemption for myself. The aim for myself is to learn to comprehend and understand the true art of what i've been studying and what this could set out to.

For a person who has tried and failed to blog, I would count this as my first attempt so any viewers out there, please be kind to my mundane and seemingly un-intriguing posts, I hope you would seek a little a clarity and interest into my views to the relevance of each topic posted.

I would like to start this out by sharing a video shared to me by someone dear, a video which actually sparked questions and awe as it went on.

The effects of urbanisation on rate the deterioration of the natural environment; not visually but through sound.

Soundscape which convey the weight of the damage made which are invisible or mediocre in the landscape we visually conceive.
